Frequently asked questions
-
Will I need planning permission for my garden room?In most cases, planning permission is not required for garden rooms, so long as the structure meets the size, location and purpose criteria set out by your local council. For example, the building will usually need to be single-story and no more than 2.5 metres tall from the ground. There may be some exceptions for larger or unusual designs, or garden rooms in conservation areas however, Fitrite can discuss these with you.
-
Are there any size restrictions for garden rooms?Garden rooms in the UK can vary in size, but certain restrictions apply to avoid needing planning permission. Generally, if the garden room is under 50% of the garden space and does not exceed a total height of 2.5 meters (if within 2 meters of a boundary), it will likely fall under ‘permitted development’.
-
Can my garden room be used for accommodation?Whilst these structures can have a wide range of purposes, garden rooms are not usually permitted for the uses of overnight or self-contained living accommodation.
-
How long does the installation take?Timings will be greatly influenced by any unique structural requirements and other factors outside our control however, the installation usually takes around 2-5 days to complete.
-
What’s the lifespan of a garden room?A well-built garden room will typically last 30-50 years. By using insulated FSC® certified uPVC cladding and steel, we work to significantly extend the lifespan of your structure, making it a durable investment. Regular care, such as cleaning, can also help maintain its condition for the future.
